Devitalization of the teeth means the removal of the nerve in cases when the patient has very decayed teeth (caries) or has pain during the bite, swelling or pain in the area around the tooth, sensitivity to cold and heat as well as trauma with nerve exposure. It continues with the cleaning of the root canals of the tooth and their final filling
An infection at the root of the tooth continues with its decay and can be caused by bacteria entering through a dental cavity, which spreads to the apex of the root. In addition to swelling, the patient may develop small pus-filled gingival granules in the mouth near the infected tooth. Treatment includes removing the caries, cleaning the root canals by treating them and then filling them. It is often associated with antibiotic therapy.
